Rear Projection SMART Board 2000i interactive whiteboard wins prestigious BETT Award

2000i is the only interactive whiteboard to be nominated

CALGARY, Alberta --- January 12, 2005 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces that the Rear Projection SMART Boardâ„¢ 2000i interactive whiteboard won the Secondary Hardware 2005 award at the BETT Awards Dinner held in London on January 11, 2005. Judged on many different criteria, including design and cost-effectiveness, as well as support of higher order skills, and effective learning and teaching styles, the annual BETT awards recognize outstanding education sector products and learning solutions. The technical criteria against which the awards were judged focused on the product being robust and resilient, and conforming to accessibility standards.

The Rear Projection SMART Board 2000i interactive whiteboard is part of the family of award-winning SMART Board interactive whiteboards. It offers interactive functionality with the shadow-free benefits of a rear-projection display and integrated projector. A self-contained, mobile unit, the 2000i can be moved within a classroom without having to realign the image, so teachers can easily change the classroom layout for teaching to small groups in a corner or the full class at the front of the room. The 2000i is height adjustable, so the screen can be lowered or raised, making it accessible for everyone, from small to tall. Simply by touching the 66" (165-cm) display, users can access and control any computer application or multimedia platform, including the Internet, CD-ROMs and DVDs. With SMART Board software, users can write over applications in digital ink and then edit, save, print or post their notes to a website for future reference.

"The BETT awards have long been recognized as the industry's premier accolade, judged by a group of senior educators who understand the benefit of quality interactive products in classroom teaching and learning," says Nancy Knowlton, SMART's president and co-CEO. "We are delighted that the 2000i gets a vote of confidence from such a distinguished panel and will continue to develop products that include educators' input, meet their specific needs and improve learning outcomes."
